About ScoreIndexer
We publish sports scoring and performance calculators that show their working.
Last updated 23 August 2026Our mission
We publish sports scoring and performance calculators that show their working. Every tool states the formula it uses, the governing body and document version it comes from, the assumptions it makes, and what the number does and does not mean.
Club-level competitors and coaches need numbers — a handicap, a points score, an equivalent time, a net run rate. Most online calculators give you a number without telling you which formula they used, which version of the coefficients they loaded, or what the number’s limits are. We think that’s not good enough when someone is about to be judged by that number.
How our calculators are built
Every calculator on this site follows the same build process:
Read the governing-body document
Not a blog summary, not another calculator site — the actual published rulebook, technical rules, or peer-reviewed paper.
Transcribe and implement the formula
The formula is written out on the page with a variable glossary. The coefficient set or table version is identified by body, version year, and date checked.
Test against a worked example from the source
Where the governing body provides a worked example in the rulebook, we test our implementation against it and note that we did.
Document the limits
Every calculator states what the number does not mean — what the formula cannot account for, where it is least reliable, and what an official process would include that this estimate does not.
Record in the version register
The coefficient set, table year, or factor version is recorded in the version register with the date checked.
The formulas we implement
Every formula and its source is documented on the methodology page. A summary:
- Golf handicapping: WHS score differential, Handicap Index (lowest 8 of 20), Course Handicap and Playing Handicap — USGA / R&A Rules of Handicapping
- Running pace: distance, time, pace and speed conversions — World Athletics standard distances
- Race equivalents:
T2 = T1 × (D2/D1)^1.06— Riegel (1981), with VDOT comparison from Daniels and Gilbert - Age grading: age-graded time and percentage — World Masters Athletics factor tables
- Strength scoring: Wilks (original and revised), DOTS, IPF GL points — IPF Technical Rules, published coefficient sets
- Swimming points:
1000 × (base/time)³— World Aquatics points tables - Cricket run rates: run rate, required rate, net run rate — ICC Standard Playing Conditions
Who we are
ScoreIndexer is built and maintained by Aryan Kumar. We implement published sports scoring standards and document them. We are not rules officials, coaches, or a governing body. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any of the governing bodies we cite — including the USGA, The R&A, World Athletics, World Masters Athletics, World Aquatics, the International Powerlifting Federation, the International Cricket Council, the USBC, the UCI, the ITF, or Concept2.
Our competence is a specific, verifiable one: we implement published formulas correctly, cite the version, and document the limits. That is what this site does, and it is the only thing we claim to do well.
